# gtable > A business app is a database plus permissions. gtable is a work in progress and not open yet. There is no sign-up. gtable is a platform for business apps built around a relational database and a permission model. A builder designs an app in the Studio: tables, fields, groups and what each group may see and do. Invited people sign in at their suite's address and get three things: the Data grid, an Interface of screens built on the same data, and a Connection surface (MCP, REST) so any agent or script can do what the screen does, as them. ## Facts - Status: work in progress, not open. No sign-up, no pricing (not decided), no waiting list. - Every read and write, from the grid, the REST API, MCP or the assistant, goes through one permission compiler. - A credential always acts as a person and can never do more than that person. A field a person cannot read is never returned or named. - Access is the union of a person's groups: adding a group can only add access. There is no admin mode inside an app. - Each suite of apps is one MCP server at https://.gtable.app/mcp, with OAuth 2.1 (browser consent). Each app also has //mcp and a REST API with a per-caller OpenAPI document. - Claude Code: `claude mcp add --transport http https://.gtable.app/mcp` - The in-app assistant proposes changes; a person approves each one before it is written. Every write is recorded and can be undone. - Each app has its own SQLite database on Cloudflare. Apps keep working with the Studio switched off. - The command-line tool is not published yet. ## Pages - [Product](https://gtable.app/product): the Data grid, Interface, Connection, the Studio and apps. Markdown: https://gtable.app/product.md - [For agents](https://gtable.app/for-agents): MCP, OAuth, Code Mode, permissions for agents. Markdown: https://gtable.app/for-agents.md - [Documentation](https://gtable.app/docs): API, MCP, CLI and permissions reference. - [Privacy](https://gtable.app/privacy): this site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. ## Blog - [How an agent gets exactly your permissions](https://gtable.app/blog/agents-with-your-permissions): Every gtable suite is an MCP server. An agent connects with an address and a sign-in in your browser, then works as you, never with more access than you have. Markdown: https://gtable.app/blog/agents-with-your-permissions.md - [A business app is a database plus permissions](https://gtable.app/blog/database-plus-permissions): Most internal tools are a database with screens bolted on. Screens are now the cheap part. Who may see which rows and fields is the product. Markdown: https://gtable.app/blog/database-plus-permissions.md ## Questions ### Can I sign up? Not yet. gtable is a work in progress and is not open to anyone outside. There is no sign-up and no waiting list. The [blog](https://gtable.app/blog) and its [feed](https://gtable.app/blog/feed.xml) are the way to follow along. ### What will it cost? Pricing is not decided, so this site shows none. It will be published before anyone can pay for anything. ### What is the difference between the Studio and an app? The Studio is where a builder designs apps: tables, groups, rules and people. An app is what invited people use, at their suite's address. They have separate sign-ins, and an app keeps working without the Studio. ### What is a suite? A set of apps that share one address, one login page and one list of people. The same person in two suites has two separate accounts, on purpose. ### Which agents can connect? Any MCP client that supports remote servers with OAuth, including Claude Code, the Claude app, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and Codex. A script can use the REST API with a key instead. ### Can an agent see more than I can? No. A key or an OAuth connection acts as the person who made it, and the same permission compiler checks it as checks their screen. It can be narrower than you, never wider. ### Where does the data live? Each app has its own SQLite database, running on Cloudflare's network. Two apps never share one. ## Notes - Append .md to a blog post, /product, /for-agents, /privacy or /terms for its Markdown. - Atom feed: https://gtable.app/blog/feed.xml
